Kia Brooks is a strategic thinker, avid networker and authentic communicator.
ABOUT KIA
Kia is currently the Deputy Director of The Gotham Film & Media Institute. She oversees the organization’s programming and communications as well as supports the organization’s development, board governance, and strategic planning efforts.
She is also the founder of The Gotham’s Owning It program which was established in 2018 with the intention to support, connect, and empower women and non-binary creators and entrepreneurs who break down boundaries in the media and entertainment industry. However, the program goes beyond that intention by providing an inclusive environment that provides entrepreneurial skill-building for all creators.
She also developed the Expanding Communities program, which provides resources, a community space, and industry access to film and media creators across film, TV, and audio industries. The program works with over 30 non-profit partners in the film and media space who share the common goal to advance creators' projects and careers.
Prior to her role as Deputy Director, Kia was the Director of membership & strategic partnerships at the Made in NY Media Center by IFP. She oversaw the Media Center’s general operations, event programming, membership and strategic partnerships. Before joining IFP, she worked in publicity and special events for over five years at revered companies such as Focus Features, Tribeca Film Festival, and Oscilloscope Laboratories working on theatrical releases, awards campaigns and special events titles include Dallas Buyers Club, Anna Karenina, Moonrise Kingdom, Time is Illmatic, among others.
Kia has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Communications from American University and a Certificate in Fundraising from New York University. Kia loves connecting people and building community.
